Recent claims suggesting that Pakistan has destroyed an Indian S-400 air defence system have been thoroughly debunked by Indian defence officials and the Press Information Bureau (PIB). Contrary to widespread social media posts, there has been no such incident.

Pakistan’s state-run media, PTV, reported that the Pakistan Air Force used hypersonic missiles to destroy the S-400 system in Adampur. The Chinese state-owned Global Times also echoed this claim, citing a Xinhua report which alleged that a JF-17 Thunder fighter jet targeted and destroyed the system in Punjab.

However, Indian defence sources quickly dismissed these statements. A spokesperson from the Indian Air Force, quoted by PTI, clearly stated, “These reports are false.” The PIB also issued a public clarification calling the claim completely fake and baseless.

The S-400 Triumf, known for its long-range interception capabilities against aircraft, missiles, and drones, is a critical component of India’s air defence network. Any real damage to this system would have serious national security implications—none of which have occurred, officials confirmed.

This misinformation comes in the wake of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly after Operation Sindoor. Since then, Pakistan-based social media channels have been circulating misleading and outdated videos to create panic and confusion.

The PIB has actively countered a series of false narratives emerging from Pakistan. Some notable fake claims include:

  1. Old video reused: A video shows Indian soldiers allegedly fleeing their posts—completely fabricated.
  2. Srinagar airport blasts: Al Jazeera reported 10 explosions around Srinagar airport—misleading and inaccurate.
  3. Jaipur airport explosion: Viral posts claim blasts occurred at Jaipur Airport—completely false.
  4. Indian post destroyed: No such incident has been reported; the claim is fake.
  5. Delhi-Mumbai air route suspended: Rumors about service disruption are false.
  6. Drone strike on Nankana Sahib: A bizarre and baseless claim with no factual basis.
  7. Cyber attack on power grid: Posts saying Pakistan hacked and shut down 70% of India’s power grid are entirely untrue.
